Gas Heating – FAQs
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What’s the difference between central heating and space heating?
A: Space heating warms one space, such as a room. There are many different types of heater that will do this. Central heating uses a heating unit which supplies warm air to different rooms via ducts.
Q: Which system (space heating or central heating) is more efficient?
A: Generally a space heater will cost less to install and run, but it will only warm one area or your home. You need to decide whether you want to warm one area, or your whole home.
Q: Can the ducting of a central heating system be used for air conditioning?
A: Yes. Where a central heater is installed with a Dual Cycle Refrigerative cooling system, both the heater and the cooler use the same duct work. However the duct system must be designed for Dual Cycle because zoning is required to achieve the desired cooling performance.
Where an evaporative cooler is used, separate duct work is required because of the higher air volumes used with evaporative coolers.
