Gas Heating – Facts

Space heating vs. central heating

Space heating, as the name suggests, is for heating a single space. It can be one room or an open plan living area. Examples include gas heaters and wall furnaces, as well as other methods of heating such as slow combustion wood heaters, radiant bar heaters, electric fan heaters or split system reverse cycle air conditioners.

A central heating system can heat a whole home.  The central heating unit supplies warm air to the rooms you choose via ducts which are located in the roof or under the floor. The two main types of central heating are ducted reverse cycle air conditioning and ducted gas heating.

In general terms a space heater will be cheaper to install and run but won’t give you the convenience and luxury of whole of home heating. The type of heating you should purchase is therefore determined by your needs and budget.

This chart will help you determine the best heating arrangement for your home.
