Evaporative Facts
Whole of home cooling versus room cooling.
The most important choice you need to make when cooling your home is do you require whole of home or room cooling.
Room cooling
There are two main types of room coolers, refrigerated high wall split systems and refrigerated room air conditioners. Refrigerated split systems consist of an indoor and outdoor unit and artificially cool the air. Doors and windows have to be kept shut to get the best results. Room air conditioners use the same process as high wall splits but can be noisy as the total unit package is usually installed in an external window or wall. Both these systems and are available with a heating option but are extremely costly to run in the winter months and are also highly inefficient for heating a whole home.
Whole of home cooling
There are two main types of whole of home air conditioners, ducted refrigerated systems and ducted evaporative systems. Like high split systems, ducted refrigerated systems consist of an indoor and outdoor coil. Ducted refrigerated systems usually work on a day/night zone system which means that you cool the living areas of your home during the day, and cool the sleeping areas of your home at night. Although efficient, ducted refrigerative systems have the highest running and purchase costs.
